The Yokosuka Sea Creature is a cryptid that was spotted in the sea in Yokosuka, Kanagawa, Japan. This is a case that is completely unknown in Japan, despite the fact that it occurred in Japan and is believed to be a cryptid sighting experienced by Japanese people.

Description[]

In November 1978, two men who normally work as construction workers decided to take their boat out for an offshore fishing trip. During their fishing, they saw a strange creature with its head raised three meters above the water. It was covered with thick, hard-looking reptilian scales and had large yellow eyes. The two witnesses described this as no fish, human or animal. Fortunately, the strange marine reptile did not attack them, but rather observed the humans with curiosity.

Les Ovnis vus de près, a site that publishes on UFOs and other paranormal phenomena, referred to this cryptid as the Yokosuka Creature, but this name is commonly used for other cryptids. (see article on Yokosuka Creature)

Marine reptiles such as plesiosaurs, mosasaurs, and ichthyosaurs that flourished during the Mesozoic Era are all thought to have had very fine scales, so it is unlikely that the creatures sighted are survivors of these creatures. Marine reptiles that may have had large scales include the extinct marine crocodile, but it is not plausible that this is the identity of the cryptid because of environmental and temporal issues.

Rather, the cryptid's identity would not be that of an extinct marine crocodile, but possibly a modern crocodile. Modern crocodilians are not capable of keeping their heads above the water's surface at a height of three meters, but given the currents, the only large reptile that could come to this area would be the saltwater crocodile.
