The Vine of Sodom is a cryptid plant mentioned in the Hebrew Bible. Its fruit are called "Apples of Sodom", which, though beautiful to the eye, explode when touched and are toxic when eaten.
Sighting
The fruit is described by the Jewish Roman historian, Josephus, who saw it growing near Sodom: "...as well as the ashes growing in their fruits; which fruits have a color as if they were fit to be eaten, but if you pluck them with your hands, they dissolve into smoke and ashes."
A fruit thought to be the "Apple/Vine of Sodom" is the Calotropis Procera. The Calotropis Procera is not a cryptid, but a flowering plant. The green fruit is often confused with the "Apple/Vine of Sodom" because when cracked open it is hollow, with the exception of a small amount of flesh.
The flesh of the fruit is also covered in an extremely bitter and thick sap. The sap is not only toxic, but has become resistant to being washed away as well as soap.
"As unpredictable—and probably just as controversial—as UFOs, Leyak are a supernatural phenomenon most feared by many Indonesians."
