The Uotsu Wildcat is a cryptid of cats reported from Uotsu City, Toyama Prefecture.
Description[]
Two species of wildcat are scientifically known from Japan, the Iriomote cat and the Tsushima cat, both of which are found only on remote islands. However, reports of wildcats also exist from Honshu, which comprises the majority of Japan.
On December 8, 1968, Genpei Yamada, a resident of Uozu City, was attacked in the mountains by a large brown cat, which he beat to death with a two-meter-long stick in his hand. The carcass was measured to be 68 cm long and the tail 22 cm long. The Forest Policy Planning Department of Toyama Prefecture asked the National Museum of Nature and Science to identify the creature, which turned out to be a domestic cat in the wild.
On the other hand, some cryptid researchers believe it may be a type of cryptid, noting that similar wildcats have been seen elsewhere in Honshu.
