Description[]
Early in the morning of June 5, 1962, around 5:00 a.m., a local resident was passing by the beach on his bicycle when he saw a creature that looked like a giant snake rampaging in the surf. Scared, the man left the area, but then approached it again. The creature, which seemed to be alive, had died, and he brought it home on his bicycle.
Upon examination, the creature was 15 meters (50 feet) long despite its curled body, had a girth of up to 20 centimeters (7.8 feet), and had a bulging head-like part but no eyes, nose, or mouth. The surface was gray, rubber-like in texture, and slimey.
A local seafood inspector was called in to identify the creature, but even he could not determine what it was.
The report stated that it would be sent to the Hokkaido University Faculty of Fisheries to be authenticated.
