Toori Ponds Serpent is a cryptid reported from Toori Ponds (also spelled Torike Ponds) on Shimoji Island, Okinawa, Japan.
On October 29, 2009, a video purportedly taken at Toori Ponds was uploaded to YouTube.(The video can be viewed at this URL https://youtu.be/bmGNdtcBTSc?si=6Kvg4bbCdrb8pQu4) The video showed a white, elongated creature that appeared to be less than one meter long coming to the surface, breathing, and then diving back to the bottom of the pond. Sea Serpents are sometimes testified to have swum similarly to whales, but in this instance they swam like fish.
Toori Ponds are two ponds that are aligned side by side. These ponds are connected to each other and also to the ocean. Therefore, it is highly likely that this snake-like creature entered the ponds from the sea.
Since sea snakes are distributed in this area, and the environment of this pond is one in which they can enter, and since the creature came to the surface to breathe, it is highly likely that this creature is a sea snake.
In the comment section of the video, opinions were divided between those who agreed and those who disagreed with the sea snake theory. Those who posted positive comments included residents of nearby Miyako Island, who testified that this is how they see wild sea snakes swimming. On the other hand, those who posted negative comments included a person who claimed to have kept sea snakes and testified that sea snakes do not move like this. However, it is not unnatural for them to move differently in a small tank and a large pond.
