The Great Brine Shrimp or Old Briney is the name given to a purported cryptid which some believe lives in Utah's Great Salt Lake. The monster has may be related to or be another name for the North Shore Monster, an aquatic creature sighted in the mid-1800's and described with a crocodilian or dolphin-like body. It has also been used to explain the erroneous whale sightings in the Salt Lake.

The Great Brine Shrimp looks like a horrifically enlarged version of the lake's native artemia salina. It is purported to be anywhere from the size of a large dog to that of a horse. The monster may have evolved from a trapped anomolacaris or similar Cambrian species that lived in the ancient Lake Bonneville. It is often depicted as a large anomolacaris-like animal with a red or pink exo-skeleton and tentacle-like appendages on its face. The large number of anomolacaris fossils in the Salt Lake basin support the prevalance of this species throughout the region.

An independent film shown on Creature Features starred the Great Brine Shrimp in a fictional story as it terrorized the downtown Salt Lake area.
