The Swamp Auger

The Swamp Auger (Natator Palustris var. perforens) is a Fearsome critter from the folklore of the American lumberjacks. The bird was reported in the book called "Yarns of the Big Woods" as a Fearsome Critter (creatures/tall tales for the lumberjacks). The bird has a corkscrew as its bill. The corkscrew beak was used for hunting. Here, in the book, its scientific name is Terebrapalus danielcoheni.

The Swamp Suger is also a aquatic creature that lives in the lakes and that has an extremely long snout like an elephant, The creature would swim below boats and uses its snout to drill small 3 inch holes in the bottom of the boat. The creature will continue to do this until the boat sinks. A lot isn't known about the Swamp Auger beside being a lake creature and a bird with a corkscrew as its bill.
