Strange Beast of Kurate （鞍手の奇獣,Kurate no Kiju）aka Shirozaru (白猿,meaning white monkey) is a cryptid reported from Fukuoka, Japan.

On April 5, 1883, in Kurate County, Fukuoka Prefecture, a man named Kikuchi Yasuhira had to go from Yamaguchi Village to Yoshida Village across the mountain to run an errand. On the way, he encountered a four-foot-tall, white-haired, bipedal, monkey-like creature in the mountains. Both he and the monkey-like creature were startled by the sudden encounter and fled the scene.
It is unclear if this encounter had anything to do with it, but Yasuhira became ill afterward and it took five days before he was able to work again. Some cryptid enthusiasts believe this is an early sighting of a Japanese bigfoot like Hibagon.
According to Yamaguchi Bintaro, there was a case in which two individuals were driving through the mountains near Fukuoka to collect insects when they saw a white monkey the size of a human sitting on a guardrail, and this may be similar.
