Sho Kyoryu or Shou Kyoryu (小恐竜, which means Little Dinosaur in Japanese) is a reptilian cryptid spotted in Brazil.

Description[]

Japanese zoologist and cryptozoologist Tatsuo Saneyoshi spent the 1950s and 1960s in South America. He not only collected various sightings, but also saw strange creatures himself.

In June 1962, Saneyoshi visited a Brazilian pepper garden run by Japanese nationals, who allowed him to collect insects on the grounds. While there, he noticed a number of brown lizard-like creatures ranging in size from 20 to 60 centimeters. These were quadrupeds, but occasionally walked on two legs without their tails on the ground in a horizontal position like theropods. Saneyoshi noticed that these creatures had five toes instead of three, which led him to conclude that they were not dinosaurs.

He introduced it in his book under the name Sho Kyoryu or Shou Kyoryu, meaning little dinosaur.

Since some lizards closely related to iguanas can walk on two legs, such as when escaping predators, it seems likely that he simply witnessed a common lizard in the area.
