Shibata Giant Spider is a cryptid reported from Shibata, Niigata, Japan.
Description[]
In 2017, at the Kajikawa Elementary School in Shibata City, students discovered a strange object outside their window during lunch break. The cryptid was yellow all over and looked similar to the parts on the top of a steel tower, with no body and about three to four tentacle-like legs. It was on top of a telephone pole several hundred meters away.
The children thought it was a piece of the top of a steel tower, but when the strange object began to move slowly, they knew their presumption was wrong. The children, whose houses were in the direction of the object's appearance, examined the site, but the strange creature was already gone.
In 2024, the operator of a Japanese blog called CRYPTO named this cryptid "Shibata Giant Spider" in reference to its "lack of body," which he likened to a sea spider.
Explanation[]
This may be an example of mass hysteria, since the witnesses were limited to about 15 children in a closed environment.
