Sayo Beast is a strange mammal reported from Sayo Town, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan.
In mid-June 2022, Sayo Town residents began seeing a strange mammal. It had a hairless gray body, long legs, and small ears attached to an elongated face. This beast was always in two bodies. They were not wary of people and would sometimes scavenge cat food in front of people watching.
They were discovered to be raccoon dogs affected by scabies. Close to this report, an infected raccoon dog was also reported in Kochi Prefecture; see the Geisei Beast article.
