The Alien Skeleton, also known as the Alien Skull or the Peruvian Skeleton is a name given to one of two ^[1] alleged alien skeletons discovered in Peru ^[2] by Peruvian anthropologist Renato Davila Riquelme ^[3] during 2011.

Description

The remains of the unidentified creature had a "triangle shaped" skull nearly as large as its 50-inch-tall body ^[4]. The Daily Mail has reported that three anthropologists ^[5] it is not a human being ^[6].

The elongated skull of the first skeleton has a soft spot, found in infants, yet also two large molars, found in older humans ^[7]. They also have eye cavities that are far larger than normally seen in humans ^[8].

Evidence

The mummified skeleton was found in the city of Andahuaylillas in the southern province of Quispicanchi. The discovery was made by Renato Davila Riquelme, who works for the Privado Ritos Andinos museum in Cusco in south-eastern Peru and has baffled anthropologists.

Riquelme states that he found the alien skeleton in "a crater surrounded by meteorites" ^[9].

Explanations

Riquelme said three anthropologists, from Spain and Russia, arrived at the museum last week to investigate the findings and agreed it was “not a human being,” even going so far as to speculate that it might represent an alien life form from the beyond. Riquelme added:

“Although the assessment was superficial, it is obvious that its features do not correspond to any ethnic group in the world.”^[10]

The remains of an eyeball in the right socket will help determine its genetic DNA and clear up the controversy if it is human or not ^[11]. The second mummy is incomplete and is only 12-inches in length and seems to be wrapped in a layer as a placenta ^[12].

The remains are most likely those of a child, though one with an unusually shaped head and frame. But that hasn't stopped local site RPP from interviewing several anonymous Spanish and Russian scientists claiming that the remains are actually those of an alien:

"It has a non-human appearance because the head is triangular and big, almost the same size as the body. At first we believed it to be a child's body until Spanish and Russian doctors came and confirmed that, yes, it's an extraterrestrial being.

Even if the remains are almost certainly those of a person, they are certainly unusual.

An alternative explanation for the bizarre discovery is that the skull was artificially deformed as part of a tribal ritual. The practice of skull elongation - to signify group affiliation or social status - dates back 9,000 years. Common in various tribal cultures around the world (such as Mayans, North American natives and Australian Aborigines), the head moulding styles fell into three groups: flat, round or conical. To achieve the desired shape, the head was wrapped in tight cloth. In the case of cranial flattening, the head was placed between two pieces of wood. The technique would usually be carried out on an infant, when the skull is at its most pliable. The cloth would be applied from a month after birth and be held in place for about six months ^[13].

The skeleton somewhat resembles the supernatural crystal skull in the 2008 Indiana Jones film Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull ^[14].
