The Pingtung Monster is a mammalian cryptid reported from Pingtung, Taiwan in the 1950s.

It is 6 feet (1.8 meters) tall, with a large head and pointed proboscis, and its entire body is covered with black or gray and white body hair. Its overall appearance is said to resemble a dog, bear or wolf. This beast is said to be carnivorous and prefers carrion, stealing livestock and pets such as chickens, ducks, and dogs, burying them in the ground, and eating them when they have decayed.

In mid-August 1957, rumors circulated that the monster had appeared in the protected forests of two villages(Nán'àn and Jiàngōng)in the area. According to the rumors at the time, it has a gray and white body and is the size of a calf. Dozens of hunters attempted to kill the monster, but their mission failed because the beast was both haunting and extremely intelligent.
On August 16, chickens and ducks were attacked in the village of guāngcūn. There were footprints at the scene, which, when traced, showed that the beast had knocked down a banana tree. Because of the possibility of this creature attacking people, the area banned children from going out at night.
One night in late August, in Xinpi Township, an elderly woman witnessed a large, black, hairy creature fighting with a neighbor's puppy. The big black beast ran out of the village. The police formed a siege, but were not successful in capturing it.
In December, three brothers in Zhúlín village found a black object in their vegetable garden. They thought it was a vegetable thief and approached it to punish it, but it was a black beast the size of a cow, and the three panicked and fled.
