The Otang is a cryptid primate resembling a primitive hominid covered in reddish or dark hair, spotted in South Africa by biologist Gareth Patterson while studying elephants in the Knysna forest.
Description[]
Gareth Patterson claims to have seen it three times and to have interviewed local witnesses about it. It was a bipedal hominid standing between 5.5 to 7 feet tall, covered with hair described as varying from beige to brown-black. It was described as nocturnal.
An Otang's alleged footprint is of a human-like shape, with a non-divergent hallux.
Explanation[]
The Otang might be a relic population of a different Homo species, or an undiscovered species of Australopithecus-like ape. An upright walking ape (48 chromosomes) from South Africa was in captivity from 1957-2012 that walked upright and looked similar to the included drawing. An online search for "Oliver the Humanzee" will show what likely was a captive Otang. Online videos of him are available as well.

In captivity from 1957-2012. Naturally walked upright with a bone structure making it thus. From Southern Africa. Likely an Otang.
