Although cats are not known from Papua New Guinea, lui Todd Jurasek was told by locals that a lion-sized cat existed there.[1] Lord Walter Rothschild also wrote of a feline animal, very similar to the marsupial Queensland tiger of Australia, existing in New Guinea.[2][3]
Similar cryptids[]
Another carnivorous cryptid reported from New Guinea is the dobsegna, which is frequently thought to be a surviving thylacine. Like the Queensland tiger, it is described as being striped.
