In Nepal
, some people believe in a legendary creature known as the Yeti. It lives high up on the glaciers of the Himalaya Mountains. Stories about this creature date back thousands of years. The legends say it can be seen only when it comes down from the high mountains to lower elevation and that it passes through the forests and into the villages where it surprises or scares people and sometimes kills a yak for food. Several climbers claim to have seen an unusual animal on their way up Mount Everest.

A few have taken photographs of very large footprints in the snow, claiming they belong to the Yeti.

Lifted straight from the pages of a Rudyard Kipling book, the steamy jungles of southern Nepal are home some of the best wildlife watching in Asia, if not the world. Within the Terai plains, visitors can seek out tigers, elephants, monkeys, rhinos, bears, deer, crocodiles, leopards, river dolphins and a staggering 867 species of birds.

In Nepal, there is a Yeti museum. his immense barn of a museum is devoted to the mountains of Nepal and the mountaineers who climbed them. Inside, you can see original gear from many of the first Himalayan ascents, as well as displays on the history, culture, geology, and flora and fauna of the Himalaya.
