This cryptid’s appearance is unknown.

In late August 2009, Greg Reynolds and Dan Serrano of non-profit Lagoon Keepers were attempting to remove what they thought to be a log from Lake Worth Lagoon in Palm Beach County, Florida. Said “log” proceeded to give Reynolds and Serrano a run-around the lagoon, diving whenever their boat came within ten feet of it. During this chase, Serrano called it an “elusive muck monster.” Reynolds captured footage of this encounter and posted it online.

Muck Monster from Footage

From Reynold’s footage, the elusive muck monster.

The footage and the buzz surrounding it became quite lucrative for the city. City commissioner William Moss secured funding for a telescope installation where the footage was captured for tourists to search for the monster. Reynolds sold T-shirts to fund his non-profit. A local tiki bar served a “Muck Monster Special.”

Thomas Reinert, a Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Marine Biologist, said “This appers to be one animal moving in this direction... Nothing’s breaking the surface. Typically, dolphins break the surface, sea turtles, manatee, a large school of fish- if it were a shark at that level you would see a fin... I can’t definitely say what it is.”

The muck monster was named an official citizen of Palm Beach by Mayor Lois Frankel.
