Mountain Devils were Sasquatch-like apes found in Ape Canyon.

A small group of men went there to find gold but were attacked by the creatures, and returned scared, saying they were attacked by the Mountain Devils. This event became widely known in cryptozoology circles as the Ape Canyon Incident.
