Monster of Niigata is a giant aquatic cryptid reported from the waters of Niigata, Japan.

On August 12, 1993, a fisherman in the Itoigawa area of Niigata Prefecture (Nishikubiki County at that time) discovered the carcass of a huge creature floating on the surface of the sea as he was moving to shore in his boat after finishing his fishing operations. The carcass was 6.5 meters long and 2 meters wide just from the surface of the sea. The back side had already decomposed and bones were sticking out, but some black skin remained. At the time, it was reported in newspapers and children's books that kaiju had been found, but this was probably the carcass of a whale.
On November 25, 1995, 22 kilometers from Niigata West Port, a high-speed vessel collided with a giant creature, injuring 13 people. This damaged parts and some parts sank into the sea. During the recovery operation, something cylindrical, 6 to 7 meters long, was captured on underwater video at a distance of 150 meters. Some people thought this object might be a large whale, but the video was unclear and the identity of the object could not be determined.
On November 19, 2005, a high-speed boat collided with someone in the sea near Sado Island, Niigata Prefecture, causing no injuries but suspending service. The identity of the colliding entity is unknown.

On March 9, 2019, a high-speed vessel came into contact with a giant white marine creature off the coast of Niigata Prefecture, injuring 80 people. This is generally believed to be a whale, but several people on the Internet thought it might have been caused by an unknown giant creature.
