Massie photographed in 2012
Massie is a cryptid reported from Lake Mashu, Hokkaido, Japan. A cryptid named Amemasu is also known from the same lake. Signal crayfish brought from North America are released into Lake Mashu, and Massie is imagined to be a gigantic crayfish.
Description[]
In 1975, poachers were fishing in Lake Mashu when they caught a giant crayfish-like creature in their nets. Although signal crayfish are only about 20 cm in length at the largest, the crayfish caught at that time had a 47 cm body. Some believe that including the claws, it could have been 70 centimeters long. It was a great discovery, but they did not send it to a research institute or other institutions for fear that it would be discovered to be illegal.
On October 19, 2012, a video of Lake Mashu was released on YouTube. (https://youtu.be/Rd5ySC6qpTg?si=wMz7ii1NSLeaEPkx ) It shows a mysterious object swimming on the surface of the lake, leaving a white trail. It is not known if this is a crayfish-like creature like others reported, but the creature captured in this video is also believed to be a Massie.
Footprints of organisms found at the bottom of the lake
In August 2014, at a depth of 211 meters at the bottom of the lake, uneven surfaces were discovered on the mud that appeared to be the footprints of some creature. Prior to this, the deepest depth at which a creature had been found in Lake Mashu was 176 meters, where the discovery was only an insect larva. Therefore, this discovery created quite a stir, and the possibility that they were Massie's footprints was pointed out on the Internet.
