Kirin, or Qilin, was a creature often spread in Chinese literature and art.
It is a dragon-like creature that is covered in fire. It is said to be extremely gentle and does not like to walk on grass, because it doesn't want to hurt anything; not even grass. It is a bringer of peace and considered a good omen, and was often a companion to sages.
They are occasionally referred to as 'the Chinese unicorn'.
