The Kanibanbani （カニバンバニ）is a cryptid reported from Japan. As will be discussed below, there is some doubt as to whether this cryptid was actually sighted.

Description[]
In 2020, cryptid researcher Takeshi Nakazawa told a story about a cryptid called Kanibanbani in a web radio program he participates in. One day, he heard from someone about a cryptid called Kanibanbani. It is described as being 2 meters tall, with a head resembling a crab and a body resembling a dog, and is seen in the mountains. Nakazawa was asked by this person to investigate the cryptid with him, and when he agreed, he was taken by this person to a dubious new religious institution.

Kanibanbani may have been a hoax to recruit Nakazawa to a new religion, or a friend of the recruiter may have actually seen this and used this fact as an opportunity to recruit Nakazawa. It is unclear whether this was actually witnessed after all, but the strange appearance described at the time has attracted the interest of cryptid enthusiasts, and many images of Kanibanbani have been produced.
Trivia[]
Some Web sites refer to this as living alone, avoiding even its own kind, and emitting a strong odor. However, Nakazawa, the first and only reporter, does not mention that he received such a description from a religious recruiter. Therefore, this additional information appears to have been either a hoax or introduced in error.
