An Indian Iguanodon

An Indian Iguanodon

Indian Iguanodon is a cryptid that has been reported from Assam, India. Despite its description, the creature has only been introduced in Japanese books.

Description[]

The creature is described as similar in appearance to the Iguanodon imagined at the time, always upright and bipedal, 6 metres (20 ft) tall and 30 metres (100 ft) long; according to a 1948 case description, it is monstrous enough to easily destroy houses and kill people.

Sightings[]

In 1946, a huge creature resembling an Iguanodon passed directly over a train travelling on a track through a place called Ariparah(アリパラ村) or Aribara village (アリバラ村)in Assam.

In 1948, a similar creature was seen again in the same village where the Iguanodon-like creature had appeared in 1946. The creature crossed through the village, trampling houses as it moved, flicking them with its tail and killing and injuring people. An expedition was soon organised to follow the creature's tracks, but lost track of it in the jungle.

Explanations[]

Reports of the creature are limited to Japanese books from the 1960s and 1970s. It is possible that unknown sources were used as references or that another case was misrepresented by misrepresenting the name of a place, but the most likely theory is that it was created in Japan.

It may have some connection to Himalayan Kaiju, which was introduced in a Japanese newspaper in 1948, but details are unknown.
