The Holadeira is an aquatic cryptid reported from a lake in the Amazon basin of Brazil. The identity of this organism has now been almost certainly identified.

Etymology[]
Its name is said to mean "saw" in Portuguese, but Japanese books refer to it as meaning "Hell's fangs".
Description[]
Illustration of Holadeira depicted as a Spinosaurid
According to the photographs taken, this creature has a brown body with black triangular spines or dorsal fins. Based on this, it is sometimes imagined to look like a Spinosaurus, Stegosaurus, or a long-bodied dragon, but this is incorrect because Holadeira's true identity has already been determined.
Sightings and Reports[]
Jeremy Wade was fishing on a lake in Brazil in August 1993 when he spotted a creature with a saw-like back in the water about 100 feet (30 meters) away. He asked the nearby village if they knew anything about this creature, but no one knew anything about it. When Wade visited the same location the following year (1994), someone claimed to have seen the creature, which he called Holadeira. He was able to photograph Holadeira on this expedition and determined that the creature was an injured dolphin. Based on the spacing of the cuts on the dolphin's back, Wade analyzed that the dolphin may have been intentionally injured by the fisherman.
Some Japanese books list Holadeira as a monster of local lore and that the local people had a culture of sacrificing to this creature, but this is not mentioned in the original report and is considered a hoax.
