The Giant Monkey Jawbone is a strange partial skeleton reported from Tokyo, Japan.
Description[]
In 1877, American zoologist Edward Sylvester Morse, who was excavating the Omori shell mound in present-day Shinagawa Ward, Tokyo, discovered among the excavated artifacts a huge monkey jaw bone that was clearly different from that of the Japanese macaque. He thought this might be similar to Cynopithecus, which is distributed in Indonesia. Morse thought it might be related to monkey monsters in Japanese folklore, such as the Hihi and Sarugami.
Occult writer Okayuu thought this might be related to the Hibagon, and that a strain of Japanese macaque that had crossed with this giant monkey in the past could cause the expression of ancestral traits in certain individuals, resulting in peculiar large individuals.
