Gatagon is a cryptid reported from Yamagata Town (formerly Yamagata Village), Iwate Prefecture, where only footprints were found.
On June 26, 1992, footprints measuring 22 cm long, 15 cm wide, and 30 to 40 cm in stride were found in a bean field in Yamagata Village, Iwate Prefecture, covering a distance of 20 meters. These footprints had five toes, one of which was pointing backward.
The hypothetical creature that left these footprints was named Gatagon.
These footprints are all that is known about this cryptid, and the Gatagon itself has never been seen. There are several websites that list sightings of Bigfoot-like creatures by local residents in this vicinity, but these are all similar in style, and since they were published only after the rise of AI technology, it is likely that the text was generated by AI and the sighting never actually took place.
A replica of the footprints is currently on display in the area, and the Gatagon is used as a tourist resource, with a festival held once a year in honor of the Gatagon.
