The Freiburg Schrecker or Freiburg Shrieker is a Mothman or Owlman like creature from Freiburg in Germany. It was only seen once.
Description[]
On the 10th of September in 1978, in Freiburg in West Germany, miners were getting ready to enter a mine they worked at, when all of a sudden, a massive black creature with big, spread-out wings blocked their way inside. They tried to approach it, but then, the creature emitted an inhuman roar, reminding them of the sound of a train screeching to a halt or "the screams of 50 people at once".
After an hour of waiting for the creature to leave, they left, hoping it would make the animal go away. Later on, they found out that the creature saved their lives - an underground explosion took place in the mine, and the mine was set ablaze.
Name[]
The creature is known on the English speaking internet as the Freiburg Shrieker, its original name however is the Freiburg Schrecker, which means "Freiburg Scarer".
Explanation[]
The creature is very similar to the Mothman, especially with its prophetic powers. It can be assumed that the Mothman and the Freiburg Schrecker were of the same species, if Mothmen indeed are a biological species. Furthermore, if one believes the Mothmen to be a species, it would also include the Russian Mothman, the Okinawa Mothman and several other cryptids.
If one is more keen to believe in the paranormal, then the creature might have been an angel, or a benevolent demon.
Hoax[]
No mine had an accident on September 10, 1978, and none of the mines near Freiburg had been in operation up to this point. The fact that the facts about the area do not match what was reported indicates that this may be a hoax of sorts.
