Appearance[]

The description of the Western European Wildmen differs dramatically, similar to the North American Sasquatch, though it is normally described as being upright, hairy, humanoid, and abnormally tall, ranging from seven to nine feet tall [2 - 2.8 meters]. European sightings frequently describe smaller creatures, though some sightings describe creatures only four to six feet in height [1.2 - 1.8 meters]. Historical depictions of Wildmen also vary, but in Western Europe, they tend to be depicted as large hairy men, sometimes women, with the females normally appearing young, or middle -aged to elderly in with the males. They are sometimes depicted with minimal clothing, though often have none at all. Also common is a large club or staff, comparable to modern reports of Bigfoot-like creatures in Europe or carrying large sticks or logs, often said to hit them against trees.

Sightings in Finland[]

The only documented sighting of a Wildman in Finland occurred on December 21, 2017. Rautavaara resident Iisakki Mieto fired up his sauna before briefly leaving to get something to eat. The weather was below freezing and there was a layer of snow on the ground. He checked through the window to see if smoke was still coming through the sauna's chimney when he noticed two large humanoids walking in a hunched posture. 'After I lost sight of the figures in the woods, I checked the sauna and it had warmed already pretty well, only that the door was left open leaking the warmth out. I produced an electric torch from the anteroom of the sauna and with its light, I saw that the unexpected visitors had left brownish coarse hair around', he claimed.
