Eieheraha is a saltwater fish cryptid reported from Tahiti. A similar cryptid reported at the same time is Ihe taviri.
Description[]
It is described as similar to swordfish, but with a short upper jaw and a long lower jaw, contrary to the common swordfish. The lower jaw has numerous fine protrusions. Its body is 15 feet long, thick in shape, and purple in color.
Sightings[]
This was reported by Zane Grey during a visit to Tahiti.
In June 1928, Gray heard about this strange fish from the natives of Rangiroa; when one of Gray's members showed them a picture of a swordfish, the natives told him that the length of the upper and lower jaw of this fish was opposite. They also testified that it could be seen during skipjack fishing.
That same month, the group heard from an Armenian and a German fisherman living in the area that they had seen four similar strange marlin.
In August 1929, Captain Laurie Mitchell of Gray's group heard more from a local fisherman at a place called Papeete. According to him, this one prefers tuna and bonito.
Explanations[]
This may have been made up by Gray, as it is only mentioned in Zane Grey's book, despite the fact that there have been other reported sightings. A real-life fish with a protruding mandible is Alienacanthus, which lived in Devonian, but the idea that it survived is not plausible.
