The Chiba Sea Monster is a marine cryptid reported from Chiba, Japan.

Description[]

On August 22, 2024, a man filming a video of surfers on a beach in Chiba Prefecture, Japan, spotted a dorsal fin-like object protruding from the surface of the ocean and evacuated, thinking it might be a shark. He uploaded this video to YouTube the next day. (The video can be viewed at this link: https://youtu.be/oir2RBBBNlo?si=Q0NnupZKt9MZl4Kk) The video poster estimated the creature to be 7 meters (about 22 feet) long.

In the video, this dorsal fin appears to stay in almost the same place. Since sharks are not good at staying in the same place, the creature photographed at this time was most likely a dolphin or other small cetacean.

On another occasion (September-October 2023), the videographer saw what appeared to be a dorsal fin at sea, but that animal was later realized to be an Indo-Pacific finless porpoise.
