"Hardly any wetland bird is more easily identified than the Roseate Spoonbill"
This article contains information relating to a former cryptid. Former cryptids are either cryptids proven to exist, or those that are no longer considered cryptids. |
Former Cryptids also called Identified Cryptids, are cryptids that have been scientifically proven to exist or have had their cryptid status revoked.
When we think of cryptozoology, we usually think of Sasquatch, the Yeti, and the Loch Ness Monster, creatures that, despite so many years of searching, remain hidden. But some cryptids have been found, like the Okapi, the Gorilla, the Giant Squid, the Black Swan, and many, many more.
The fact is that all these creatures were not so long ago considered the stuff of myths and hoaxes by serious zoologists, and that something like the platypus was considered even less unlikely than something like a plesiosaur in Loch Ness, or an undiscovered ape wandering the Pacific Northwest. These are all real creatures that, at least for a moment, blurred the line between zoology and cryptozoology. Animals that have always been known to exist, but are anomalies or out-of-place like the Northern Spoonbill are also cryptids.
