The Braxton County Monster or Braxton Monster is a bipedal hairy cryptid reported from West Virginia. This name is sometimes used as an alias for the Flatwoods Monster.
Sightings and Reports[]
On Friday night, December 30, 1960, at about 11:00 p.m., Charles Stover, a 25-year-old bakery delivery man, was returning home in his bakery truck after work when he approached a wooded area near Hickory Flats and rounded a curve and saw a strange creature. It was a 6-foot creature, which he described as "standing erect, with hair all over his face and body.” Stover pulled over a short distance away from the creature and looked at it again. The creature stared at him and started roaring off.
This startled the young deliveryman so much that he hurried away and went to the restaurant-filling station, where he upsettingly described his experience to the people there. Some in the group thought it might have something to do with the strange screams that had been reported in the area for the past few weeks and that this might be the perfect opportunity to witness this creature. They armed themselves with guns and headed to the scene. Unfortunately, they did not witness the monster, but they did find overturned rocks and traces left on the frozen ground.
The next day, Stover's wife, sensing that her husband had seen something terrible, believed his testimony and reported her husband's experience in the newspaper.
