Bothrodon pridii was a supposed giant snake of South America.

Description[]

Bothrodon pridii was based on an alleged 2.5 inch long fossil poison 'fang' found in the Gran Chaco area of South America in the 1920s. It was presumed to be from an unknown snake and was studied extensively by John Graham Kerr. Kerr estimated the total length of the snake could have reached 60 ft or so.

Explanation[]

In 1939, the 'fang' was identified by Dr W. Quenstedt as being a prong from the shell of a Chiragra spider conch (Harpago chiragra).
