Beast of Hrubieszów, also simply known as Something Terrifying is a monster connected to a popular urban legend in Poland about soldiers accidentally killing their drunk friend.
Description[]
The creature, if it even is a creature, is described in a popular Polish urban legend from the 90's, taking place in the city of Hrubieszów. The legend says that during the night, several soldiers were sitting by a campfire, one of them was slightly drunk, and thus became aggressive towards his fellow men, even pulling out his combat knife on them and threathning them with it, so the sergeant decided to isolate him from everyone. He locked him in an old dungeon, which was a part of one of the tunnels in the Hrubieszów forest.
The soldiers had a camp nearby, and so they could hear the drunk soldier's angry threats and yells; soon enough, the drunk man became silent, and then, all of the sudden, started banging on the door, begging to be let out he started shouting that "something terrifying" is "coming towards him". His fellow soldiers thought he was doing it to get out, and just ignored the manic, horrified screaming. After a while his voice fell silent.
After a while the soldiers decided to check up on him, because they thought he had finally sobered up and calmed down. What they saw was terrible - he was torn to pieces. Everyone was very upset about it; the sergeant even committed suicide, he couldn't forgive himself for not opening that door and ignoring the pleas of one of his men. The army tried to find some animal that could inflict such injuries, but found nothing - the damage was too severe to be done by either a wolf or a bear.
