The Antarctic Spider is a creature sighted by Google cameras in Antarctica. These creatures were also called Spider Things or just Spiders in the 4chan thread about them.

Description[]

This creature was sighted by Google cameras in Antarctica. When the picture was posted on the /x/ board of the 4chan imageboard, one of the users, who used the tripcode Sonofantanon, stated that his father was stationed at McMurdo Station in Antarctica, and had several encounters with those Spider Things.

Mcmurdo2

A parasite from the movie Cloverfield, to which the creature was frequently compared in the 4chan thread.

According to the 4chan thread, those creatures - and larger, five-legged spiders whom Sonofantanon called the Striders - live in Antarctica, and the American, Chinese and Chilean governments experiment on them. They were allegedly awoken by human research in Antarctica, being previously frozen in ice, but another explanation that appeared in the thread was that they were creatures created by the military.

According to the thread, humans from human trafficking operations in China and America end up in Antarctica, being fed to those creatures, which are kept in a massive building.

Explanation[]

There is no possible way for large spiders to exist in Antarctica without proper insulation against frigid temperatures - if those creatures were to exist, they'd have to either be crustaceans, or have some proper insulation to protect their body from getting too cold. This, combined with the sensational Strider creatures described alongside them - which are described as resembling Combine Striders from the highly popular FPS game Half Life 2 - and the connection to the controversial child/human trafficking conspiracy theory makes these creatures a very obvious hoax or a scary story.
